Karnali, Jan 9 : Stray cattle in the provincial capital Birendranagar and in other urban centres are being sent to Humla.

The effort is being made following a mandamus order from the High Court to make proper management of the stray cattle.

Accordingly, the Birendranagar municipality is sending the stray cattle to an agro farm in Humla in the first phase.

The Court had issued the mandamus order on Wednesday, asking the municipality to immediately manage the stray cattle.

Following the order, the municipality issued a public appeal to the owners to take away the cattle left astray in the streets of the capital. As none came into contact to claim the cattle, 100 cattle heads were dispatched for Kharpunath rural municipality of Humla, said chief of the municipality environment and monitoring sub-unit Yam Lal Giri. The request came from the agro farm to provide cow and ox.

The remaining cattle will also be gradually managed, based on the demands that are received for them, Giri said.

According to the municipality data, there are around 500 stray cattle in Birendranagar streets alone.

The cattle had become a reason for road accidents and a nuisance to traffic, and a case was filed calling for an order to manage the stray cattle.
