Damauli, Dec. 10: Police have impounded four tractors for illegally mining sands from a local river at Bhuwantar in Devghat Rural Municipality-5 of Tanahun district.
Police seized the tractors from the spot at Bhuwantarghat while labourers were loading the illegally mined sands from the river, ward chairman Durga Bahadur Thapa said.
The tractors were seized jointly by the police and local body appointed city police on Sunday early morning, Thapa said.
Locals have accused local entrepreneur Hari Bahadur Kunwar of ordering to mine the sand illegally from Bhuwantarghat. Sand mining from the river was carried out before the ward office published the tender bid, Thapa said.
The tractor owners were charged Rs. 10,000 per tractor for illegally mining sand from the local river. Police kept the seized sand and impounded tractor for one night.
Ward chairman Thapa said that the tractors were released after they paid the fine.
Locals had at first informed the police and local bodies about the illegal mining of sands from the Trishuli River side of Bhuwantarghat.
Ward chairman Yal Bahadur Gurung of Ward No.5 said that the illegal sand mining from the river side had been happening without notice of public and local bodies in the night time.
