By Our Correspondent, Bajura, Mar. 20: Relief materials were provided to 120 flood-affected houses in Budhiganga Municipality, Bajura.

An organisation called ‘Many Efforts in Humanitarian Service,’ Dhangadhi, distributed food materials to 120 flood-affected families. The torrential rain and the subsequent flood wreaked havoc in the municipality destroying houses and properties in its wake on August 9, 2020.

Kaldhari Nepali, a resident of Budhiganga Municipality, thanked the organisation for providing food items right when her supply had exhausted.
Flood victim Nepali said, “I have been homeless after the flood washed away both my land and my shelter. I started to increasingly become worried over the next meal and a place to stay overnight. The relief package shall help me sustain for a few days. We request the local government to pay heed to our plights like these organisations and provide us a place to live in, at least.”

Chairman of the organisation Bhakta Raj Joshi and his team provided the families with a 30-kg packet of rice, five kg lentils, two packets of oil and a packet of soya bean chunks.

Joshi said, “Although the motive of the organisation is to help anyone in need as soon as possible, we were unable to reach out the flood victims as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the difficulty in navigating the muddy roads during monsoon. So, we have come now.”

The organisation has been working for education and sanitation as well. Rural women still do not have access to sanitary pads and basic knowledge on hygiene.The organisation also distributed health and hygiene products to 350 local women. In addition to this, they provided school bags and other stationery items to 100 children from extremely poor families.

The organisation also provided relief packages to the flood victims of Pinalekh in Badimalika Municipality Ward No. 1.

Chairman Joshi informed that they had also been running skill-workshops in the village to help the locals increase their income.The organisation had provided health, hygiene and educational materials to the people of Badimalika and Budhi Ganga, the previous year as well.

Mayor Dipak Bikram Shah acknowledged and lauded the organisation’s attempt in helping the flood victims. “Several people lost their homes and have been reeling under scarcity since August last year. Such relief materials have been able to provide a bit of solace,” he added
