Kawasoti, Nov. 20: Under the government’s Terai-Madhes Prosperity Programme and the plan of Kawasoti Municipality to make the municipality free of thatched-roof houses, concrete houses have been handed over to the poor families of the Majhi and Musahar communities.
Altogether 27 houses in four wards of the municipality were handed over to the Majhi and Musahar families for the first time in Kawasoti Municipality.
Ten houses in Ward No. 7, four in Ward No. 11, three in Ward No. 12 and 10 in Ward No. 13 have been provided to the poor families of the two communities.
Hariram Musahar of Kawasoti 13 said, “We had to face a lot of hardships during the monsoon as the thatched roofs were not able to stop the water.”
We are very happy to have concrete houses to live in. The government has made our lives easier by providing us with concrete houses, added Musahar.
He said that he had never imagined that he would one day be living in a concrete house having roof of iron-sheets.. My dream to live in a concrete house has finally come true, he added.
Sitaram Majhi, another local, said, “We are dependent on regular labour wages to run our house. Constructing a house was next to impossible.”
All the people of the Majhi and Musahar communities were happy to get concrete two-roomed houses.
All 27 houses were constructed in Kawasoti Municipality at a cost of Rs. 7.2 million.
Out of the total budget, Rs. 5 million was provided by Nepal Government, Rs. 500,000 was provided by Kawasoti Municipality and Rs. 1.7 million by the consumers, informed Kawasoti Municipality.
Last year, Kawasoti Municipality had handed over houses to the deprived families of Ward No. 15.
The municipality informed that they had planned to build houses in Ward No. 15 and 17 in coordination with the central government.
As per the plan of the municipality made last fiscal year to remove thatched roof houses from the municipal area, it had been striving to construct houses in a high pace in coordination with the Central and State governments.
Likewise, Madhyabindu Municipality, Devchuli Municipality and Gaidakot Municipality have also put forth plans to construct houses for the deprived Majhi and Musahar families of the district.
