Police punish 50 morning walkers

By Our Correspondent, Bhairahawa, Apr. 16:  The Armed Police Force (APF) in Bhairahawa warned 50 persons for heading on morning walk Thursday morning, defying the nationwide lockdown implemented by the government to combat COVID-19.

Man Mahadur Shahi, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the APF Nepal No. 38 battalion, Rupandehi said, “On Thursday, we held 50 people who were marching on morning walk in group.”

Shahi said that they were released after warning them to stay at their homes.

“They were found walking in group at Bypass road of Siddharthanagar Municipality-7,” said Shahi. “We released them on the condition of not stepping out of their houses after alerting them about the threat of COVID-19. “

Shahi said that the APF would be mobilised fully to implement the lockdown more strictly.

The police had punished some of the youths who had stepped out of homes by making them stay in plank position for a while on the road.
