Kathmandu, Dec 11 :  As the country marked the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, stakeholders and activists have laid emphasis on meaningful participation of women in all three layers of the government.

At an interaction programme on 'Women Leadership, Power Relations and Women Human Rights' organised by Lalitpur Bar Association on Thursday, the speakers said that women's participation should be ensured through their empowerment in all three layers of government as the women are still oppressed and suppressed.

On the occasion, Senior Advocate Sadhana Shrestha said that women's rights would be ensured only if they are economically resourceful adding that women are suppressed if they are economically dependent.

Member of Nepal Bar Association Rakshya Basyal, Chair of Lalitpur Bar Association Arjun Maharjan, activist Kopila Dangol and other speakers expressed their opinions on women's participation in the state apparatus and empowerment.
