Madhyapaschim University VC’s vehicle vandalized

Karnali, Aug 11: Agitating students of Madhyapaschim University(MU) central campus have vandalized a vehicle of its Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Nanda Bahadur Singh.

Irate students vandalized the stationary vehicle while VC Singh was participating at a programme organized by Madhyapaschim University School of Management (MUSOM) on Tuesday afternoon.    

Madhyapaschim University’s Registrar Prof Dr Narayan Prasad Poudel shared that the VC’s vehicle was vandalized twice. He further said stones were also pelted while the interaction was underway at MUSOM as well as an axe was thrown to the parked vehicle of the VC. The window panels of the vehicle got smashed in the incident of vandalism, it is shared.    

Some students were injured in a clash with police while VC Singh was returning after attending the interaction ‘Challenges of Higher Education and Resolving Measures of University’s Challenges in the Present Context’.   

Among the injured is the coordinator of Madhyapaschim University ANNISU (Revolutionary) Topendra Poudel, ex-Chairperson of Free Students’ Union Jhakka Bahadur Shahi and Tikaram Dhakal. Four students’ unions/organizations have launched a struggle in the University demanding

operation of examinations through online medium, increment of scholarship quota, the investigation into the expression made public by University’s office-bearers earlier and designation of date for FSU election. Students have staged relay sit-ins for the past few days.    

Issuing a statement, the MU has demanded action against the unruly people who resorted to vandalizing the vehicle of the VC.

On the contrary, protesting students organizations have demanded action against the University’s office-bearers suppressing the struggle of the students.

Agitating students said that they did not throw an axe at the VC’s vehicle and also accused the VC of mobilizing anarchic groups to suppress the peaceful protest of the students.
