Journalists, literary writers awarded

Kathmandu, Nov 16: Five journalists and litterateurs have been honoured for their contribution to journalism and literature.
The awardees are photo journalist Ratna Krishna Shrestha (Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), reporter Yam Pradhan (RSS), litterateur Amrit Lal Shrestha (also former RSS's employee), journalist Himesh Ratna Bajracharya and senior journalist and litterateur Mohan Dulal.
Established by Newa Journalist National Dabu, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Bidya Sundar Shakya, presented the awards to the honoured journalists and litterateurs amid a function here on Saturday.
Photo journalist Shrestha has received 'Baburaja Jyapu Photo Journalist Award', and 'Pradhan Gyandevi Sthapit Memorial Journalism Award'. Both awards carry a purse of Rs 10,000 each.
Similarly, litterateur Dulal has been honoured with 'Bangmaya Satabdi Purus Satya Mohan Joshi Journalism Award' (Rs 10,000 cash prize), journalist Bajracharya with 'Vikku Kumar Kashyap Memorial Journalism Award' (Rs 11,100 cash prize), and Shrestha with 'Gyandevi Laxmi Prabha Memorial Journalism Award' (Rs 20,000 cash prize).
On the occasion, Mayor Shakya said the society needs journalism to guide Nepali citizens to pursue a right way through factual and credible news while stressing the need for journalism to help with the government's goals of prosperity and development through the dissemination of factual news.
