Installation of new traffic lights begins in Capital

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Aug. 26: The Department of Roads has begun a process to install new traffic lights in 13 different places of the capital city.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and chief for the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division Janak Bhattarai said that the new traffic lights would be installed near Sahid Gangalal Heart Centre, Lazimpat, Keshar Mahal, Durbar Marg, in front of Trichandra College, Teku, Thapathali, Babarmahal, in front of Civil Hospital, Tinkune, Koteshwor, and Jadibuti.

SSP Bhattarai said that the Department of Roads has been heading the task.

Preparations are underway to bring traffic lights into operation in these places within a week, Bhattarai said.

According to the Department, even if there is no electricity, the newly installed lights will last for 2-3 hours. A control mechanism for such a system has been set up at the traffic division.
