Valley's DAOs suspend non-essential services

Kathmandu, Aug. 8: Three District Administration Offices (DAOs) of the Kathmandu Valley Friday decided to suspend some non-essential daily services from August 9 to 24.
A meeting of the three Chief District Officers of the valley and security officials held this afternoon decided to halt some of the non-essential services till August 24.
“The meeting has also agreed to shut-down or seal any part and the area if the COVID-19 cases go on flaring in the coming days in the valley,” Janak Raj Dahal, Chie1f District Officer of Kathmandu, told The Rising Nepal.
According to Kamal Prasad Pandey, administrative officer of the Kathmandu DAO, some services like the application for and issuance of new citizenship certificates, application for photocopy of the citizenship certificate, renewal and registration of weapons, institution and newspaper registration and renewal, renewal of private security companies, passport distribution and minor ID distribution have been suspended.
The meeting, however, decided to continue some of the essential services like the task of maintaining peace and security in the society, straight application and complaint registration, case file, vehicle pass issuance for essential works, and disaster management related works.
The CDOs of the valley also discussed to monitor the strict implementation of the health protocols in all the shops, hotels and restaurants operating in the valley. Police were also given authority to nab and fine people disobeying the health protocols and security criteria issued by the Home Ministry.
New Road shutdown
Meanwhile, Chinikaji Maharjan, ward chairman of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-22, said that they had instructed the shop owners and all wholesalers and retailers of New Road to shut down the markets from Friday evening (August 7) after two cloth sellers were tested positive for the coronavirus.
The infected were both males, said Maharjan. The ward had urged the public health office of Kathmandu to immediately begin the contact tracing of the infected persons.
“We have not yet decided to seal off New Road, but directed shop owners to shut down the markets to control further transmission of the virus,” Maharjan said.
