Janakpur, Oct. 3: Sex selective abortion has declined by 50 per cent after the campaign ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (Save the Girls, Educate the Girls)’ was launched in the State 2, said Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut on Wednesday.
The State government had initiated the campaign to change the conservative societal perspective towards daughters, said CM Raut.
Addressing a programme entitled, “policy level dialogue for ending child marriage in State level” in Janakpur on Wednesday, CM Raut said under the campaign, the State government had introduced girls’ insurance, girls’ scholarship programme and girls’ toilets in schools.
The law enforcing agencies needed to be accountable for ending all forms of ill practices prevalent in the society, said Chief Minister Raut.
“There are numbers of laws and policies to curb evil practices like child marriage before, but such practices continue to exist in the society as the law enforcement agencies remained unaccountable,” he said.
“If the State government had its own police and administration, all forms of criminal activities would be controlled,” said CM Raut, adding that the State government was committed to taking stern action against the guilty of heinous crimes like acid attack.
Meanwhile, speaking at another programme in Janakpur today, Chief of the State 2 Ratneshwor Lal Kayastha said the festivals of Nepal have promoted deep unity, social and cultural solidarity, tolerance and goodwill.
Extending his good wishes on the occasion of Dashain and upcoming festivals at a tea reception hosted by his office today, the Chief said, “May goddess Durga bless every single Nepali to move ahead for the country’s development.”
CM Raut, Speaker of State Assembly Saroj Kumar Yadav, ministers of the State, chief secretary of the State government and other high level officials were present on the occasion.
