Kathmandu, Jan. 4: Normal life across the country has been affected as several regions received light to moderate rains and snowfall for the past two days.
The Terai and hill regions witnessed light to moderate rainfall while high mountains received rainfall and light to heavy snowfall.
Movement of general public was affected following severe cold followed by rains and snowfall from eastern Terai to Far-western parts in the past two days, according to Meteorologist Sujan Subedi.
“Rain causing clouds in the Kathmandu Valley and across the country will disappear from Friday night onwards, but scattered clouds will remain, with chances of having partial sun from Saturday morning,” Subedi said.
The western disturbance causing the formation of low atmospheric pressure has led to rain and snowfall during two days, he said.
The impact of westerly wind will completely disappear from Sunday onwards from Nepal and the day will be clear and sunny bright then after, he said.
Except for in Saptari, Udayapur and Gaighat, northern parts of the Eastern Terai have also witnessed rainfall on Thursday night and Friday morning, he said.
Similar was the case in the central, the western and some parts of Far-western Nepal on Friday, he said. The weather condition in Kanchanpur district has become sunny on Friday afternoon, he said.
Locals residing in high hilly and mountain regions have been affected by freezing cold due to heavy snowfall which had disrupted the normal life, he said.
According to Subedi, the westerly disturbance entered Nepal four days ago.
The minimum temperature of Kathmandu was measured at 5 degree Celsius on Friday morning. In the last 24 hours, Dipayal received the highest rainfall with 64 mm, followed by 24.6 mm in Birendranagar.
Meanwhile, several districts in the far-west Nepal were affected following the snowfall coupled with rains. With the heavy snowfall, the minimum temperature dropped in Bajura, Doti, Dadeldhura, Bajhang, Baitadi and Darchula districts of the far-west.
The locals said that Gaumul, Himali, Swamikartik, Chhededaha and Badimalika areas in Bajura witnessed heavy snowfall forcing the locals in the villages to suffer with hardships in taking care of their cattle.
However, the locals residing in some lower parts of the same regions have expressed their happiness citing the rainfall will be good for seasonable crops.
