Prime Minister Oli stresses on linking cultural festivals to tourism

By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, Sept. 12: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed on linking cultural festivals to the tourism in order to materialise the national desire of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happpy Nepali’. The Prime Minister made this notion in a welcome message issued today on the occasion of Indrajatra Festival being celebrated in Kathmandu Valley. Newari communities of Kathmandu valley are celebrating Indrajatra festival on Friday. In his message, the Prime said that the country was currently in the campaign of socio-economic transformation aiming to develop a prosperous Nepal. “In order to accomplish the national desire of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’ the culturally import festivals should be linked in tourism production of the country,” the Prime Minister said. “Festivals having historical importance and unique features might be the centre of attraction to foreign tourist. I want to urge all to assimilate this aspect while celebrating such festivals,” the message of the Prime Minister stated. The Prime Minister further stated that Nepal was a multilingual and multi-cultural country in which people are residing together by respecting one another’s culture as common socio-cultural assets. “This unique cultural features feature of our society is bounding Nepali people in formula of unity. There had been attempts to disturb the unity among Nepali people by interpreting the diversity as discrimination, but we have now been able to defeat this attempt guided by bad intention”, the PM said. He said that Indrajatra had been protected as a cultural festival. Referring to the mention about Indrajatra festival in holly books and literatures including Rmayana, Mahabharata, Puranas among others, the Prime Minister said that it proved the historicity of the festival. Protection and continuation of such historical festival indicates cultural strength of the country, the Prime Minister said.
