President Xi’s visit has boosted Nepal-China relations

Kathmandu, Oct. 14: Political leaders as well as the leaders of the business community have termed the two-day State visit of the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping to Nepal as successful. Both the leaders of the ruling and the main opposition parties have hailed the visit of the Chinese leader.
They said that it was a historic opportunity for Nepal to welcome the Chinese President in an interval of 23 years.
Earlier, the then Chinese President Jiang Zemin had visited Nepal in 1996.
Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, who had a separate meeting with President Xi for about half an hour on Sunday, said that the talks and discussions held between Nepal and China during Xi’s visit were highly positive.
“What we have done has been okay,” Prachanda said.
However, he did not make any further comment. “Everything has been reported in the media, and you can also contact party spokesperson for additional views,” he said.
During his meeting with the Chinese President, NCP chair Prachanda said that with the signing of BRI, Nepal-China relations had entered a new phase.
Spokesperson of the Nepal Communist Party Narayankaji Shrestha said that the visit of the Chinese President that was possible after a long interval became highly successful.
“This visit has become a base for taking Nepal-China relations to a newer height,” the former foreign affairs minister said, adding that with the visit, friendship and intimacy between the two countries have further deepened.
The visit has ensured Chinese support to push Nepal’s economic revolution further ahead, he said.

He said that the visit had built suitable environment and prepared a practical base for further cooperation between the two neigh bours.
General Secretary of the Nepali Congress Dr. Shashanka Koirala said that the Chinese President visited Nepal after a long gap.
He said that his party had no objection to the commitments made by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to Nepal as the Nepali Congress never made any objection to the positive works.
He said party president Sher Bahadur Deuba was also positive towards the visit of President Xi.
“There might have been positive discussions between XI and our party president. The visit is historic as it was made after a very long time. It is the good step to make the bilateral relation more cordial. I think, the visit has been beneficial for Nepal,” Dr. Koirala said.
He said that construction of railway by increasing domestic production, mostly agriculture products, would help for the country’s prosperity.
Nepali Congress joint-general secretary and former foreign minister Dr. Prakash Saran Mahat said that the visit had been good and was as per the expectation of the Nepali people.
“We have discussed on connectivity, the commitment has been made to upgrade roads in the border entry points and making detailed project report (DPR) of cross border railway,” he said.
Nepal should make follow-up homework for the implementation of the agreements signed with China, he said.
