Bhairahawa, Nov. 20: Former Prime Minister and chairman of ruling the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said on Tuesday that capital of States could also be based at a new and non-urban location.
Inaugurating the Lumbini Tourism Promotion, Industrial Trade and Agriculture Festival – 2076 organised in Bhairahawa, he said that he had a strong assumption that the State capital should be in an easily accessible place for all people of the State.
Prachanda, who had drawn flaks for his inconsistent remarks regarding the possible places of State capitals in different places, made remarks regarding the permanent capital of State 5.
He said that the State capital could be based in the new place without having a city like facilities. “There are many queries and concerns among the people. There is a kind of feelings among the people of Banke and Bardiya, and another type of sentiment in Dang and Rukum. I have to speak in the benefit of the people,” Prachanda said.
“I had spoken in Nepalgunj and also in Dang, and now want to speak here that the State capital should be in the place which will be appropriate and accessible to all,” Prachanda added.
Currently, the temporary headquarters of State 5 is in Butwal, he said, adding that new place can be searched for making permanent capital of the state and it was under the discussion. Even around two years after its formation, State 5 government has still been unable name its permanent capital.
It is said that there is informal consensus among the top leaders of the NCP to make Rupandehi the State capital on the basis of infrastructure.
On the occasion, Prachanda said that he was committed to encourage the private sector for the promotion of industry, trade and businesses.
He urged the private sector to be confident that their expectation would be met within five years. “I have heard that industrialists and traders have gone outside the country to invest, which is very distressing,” he said.
Prachanda said that the government was creating employment friendly environment to generate more employment in the country.
