Charikot, Aug. 7: Charging of the 220/132 KV transformer at the New Khimti Substation in Phulasi of Ramechhap district completed Thursday evening.
With this, the electricity generated by the Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectricity Project (UTHP) located at Bigu Rural Municipality of Dolakha district can be directly sent to the Kathmandu Valley.
According to Purna Gopal Ranjit, Assistant Manager of the project, the transformer was charged with Gas Insulated Substation (GIS).

Of the four transformers at the substation, three are in operation and one is kept in reserve. GIS is considered safe and occupies less space. Till now, the electricity generated by the 456 -Megawatt UTHP was being sent to the Valley through Gongar, Khimti, Dhalkebar, Chandranigahapur, Pathlaiya and Hetaunda.
New route of the electricity transmission is Gongar, Khimti, Lamo Sanghu to Bhaktapur.

This 132 KV transmission line built for the evacuation of electricity generated by Khimti Hydroelectricity Project (60 Megawatt) is 46 km single circuit up to Lamo Sanghu and 96 km double circuit to Bhaktapur.
The transmission line can carry minimum 60 MW to maximum 120 MW electricity to Kathmandu.
Built with the domestic investment, the UTHP is currently generating 304 MW electricity from its four units. It has six generation units. Meanwhile, Tanahun Hydroelectricity Project (THP) is set to distribute land compensation to the households affected by the construction of the transmission line.
The Rising Nepal’s Tanahun reporter wrote that the about Rs. 13.13 million compensation is finalised for distribution.

“The compensation is set with the recommendation of Land Revenue Office and Survey Office while considering the current land rate and demands of local people,” said Achyut Ghimire, Chief of the project.
The THP is in the process to acquire 23 ropanis 5 Ana land. The compensation will be distributed through the District Administration Office, Tanahun.

Ghimire said that foundation construction work for 26 towers under package three of the project has been completed. A team of technicians from India is making preparations for the construction.
The transmission line will carry the electricity generated by the UTP, located at Jhaputar of Rishing Rural Municipality in Tanahun, to the national transmission line through Bharatpur Substation.

People in Byas Municipality, Bandipur, Anbu Khaireni and Devghat rural municipalities will be affected by the project. THP is the second reservoir-based hydroelectricity project in Nepal after Kulekhani Hydroelectricity Project. A 140-metre high dam will be constructed at Dule Pahara near Damauli and will be taken to the underground powerhouse through a 1162 metre ling tunnel in Kahundanda.
