Kathmandu,Jan 1: After the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the announcement of the mid-term elections on April 30 and May 10, police have started necessary security preparations.
However, the Supreme Court's decision will determine whether the parliament will be reinstated or mid-term elections will be held.
Police are also waiting for the court's decision. However, necessary preparations have already begun, they said.
Police spokesperson and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar said that preparations for the election security had started and it was in pre-planning stage.
According to him, an integrated security plan would be implemented for the election. Preparations have been made to form a committee headed by Joint Secretary of the Home Ministry with representatives of all the four security agencies.
At present, the police headquarters is not involved in whether to announce recruitment of temporary police personnel that may be required for holding the election in more secured way, he said.
"There is still time," he said. “We have held elections in the past as well. Internal works have started. All issues, including security challenges, are being studied,” SSP Kunwar said.

However, some retired security officials fear that the Netra Bikram Chand Biplav-led CPN (Maoist) may pose a security threat. The rebel group has been conducting its violent activities in different parts of the country.
Former AIG Navaraj Dhakal argued that the presence of security personnel in the high and hilly areas would not be easy due to the difficult terrain, and that the citizens and countrymen were not prepared to participate in the election in a fearless manner.
However, police spokesman SSP Kunwar said, "Three years ago, when the election was held, the rebel group had similar activities and we had many doubts that the election could not be held peacefully. There is not much difference between then and now. Therefore, we have not taken the rebel group as a big challenge.”
The police lack resources at present to get engaged in election environment, he added.
He said that the concerned parties had been informed for this. However, there are doubts within the police whether the election will be held on time or not.
During the general election held in 2017, Nepal Police and other security personnel had deployed over 110,000 security personnel to conduct the election in safe and peaceful manner. For that, Nepal Police had recruited 70,000 temporary policemen.
