Kathmandu, Mar. 23: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that children should be ready to contribute towards defense and development of the country by understanding the contribution made by their ancestors.
He urged the children to work creatively in taking the knowledge, skills and resources acquired by their ancestors to new heights.
He made that remark while addressing a gathering of children from different parts of the country at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Monday to address the issues in the 10-year strategy on children and to offer suggestions.
He added that the children of Nepal were the descendants of knowledgeable and inventive ancestors and if they worked hard, they would be able to do whatever they wanted, and that they should be honest in every endeavour they make.
In the programme organised by Consortium Nepal, a group of organisations working for children, participants suggested that children should be provided with a child-friendly environment in their family and society, have a meaningful representation at local level, including school management committee. They also suggested that all local governments implement child-friendly local governance, demanding national strategy on local governance be passed by the Council of Ministers.
Likewise, the children suggested the Prime Minister to allocate budget to ensure participation, promotion and equal development of children. They demanded that child gathering at local level should be implemented regularly and effectively.
In addition, the participants suggested that the use of junk food at home and schools should be completely banned to ensure a balanced and nutritious diet for all children.
