PM Oli holds bilateral meeting in Baku

Prime Minister and Leader of the Nepali delegation to the 18th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) K P Sharma Oli held bilateral meetings at the sidelines of the Summit here this afternoon.    
On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli held bilateral talks with Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina at the bilateral room in the premises of the Baku Congress Centre.    
Various aspects of the bilateral relations and mutual interest including on energy cooperation, better use of transit support provided by Bangladesh to Nepal and speeding up other commercial activities between the two countries were discussed, according to Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali. The two leaders also discussed about the stalled SAARC process and on what could be done together by Nepal and Bangladesh to get it back on track.    
Also today at the Baku Congress Centre, Prime Minister Oli met with President of Pakistan Arif Alvi and discussed matters of mutual concern between the two countries. Matters related to adverse impact of climate change on the Hindu Kush Himalaya, the stalled SAARC process and ways to face other existing and emerging challenges together were discussed during the meeting, Minister Gyawali said.    
During both the meetings, the need to revitalize SAARC by minimizing differences between member states to thereby promote regional peace was prominently discussed, he said.    
Minister Gyawali also shared that Prime Minister Oli met with President of Azerbaijan and 18th NAM Summit Chair Ilham Aliyev on Friday evening during the Gala dinner the latter hosted in honour of the heads of delegation to the NAM Summit.    
On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli thanked President Aliyev for successfully organizing the NAM summit, reiterated Nepal’s full commitment to NAM and all possible support to Azerbaijan as it chairs the NAM for the next three years.    
Foreign Minister Gyawali, Chief Adviser to the Prime Minister Bishnu Rimal, Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Rajan Bhattarai and Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi, were also present at the meetings with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the President of Pakistan.    
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Gyawali held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Djibouti Mahmoud Ali Youssouf at the sidelines of the 18th NAM Summit. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest between Nepal and Djibouti were discussed, while it was agreed to collaborate on common issues in the international forum, including UN. Foreign Secretary Bairagi, Resident Representatives of Nepal to the UN Amrit Rai and other senior Foreign Ministry officials were present in the meeting.
