Kathmandu, Dec. 2: After remaining shut for nine months, Pashupatinath temple is finally going to be reopened for devotees from December 16.
Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has decided to reopen the temple for devotees by strictly enforcing safety measures such as social distancing.
The trust has prepared standards to be followed by the devotees while visiting the temple, said Dr. Pradeep Dhakal, member-secretary of PADT.
The exiting and entering door will be separate, and measures, like distributing sanitiser and checking body temperature, of all the devotees will be done at the main gate of the temple, he said.
Never before in its history has the temple remained closed for such a long period of time. It was not reopened even during the holy month of Shrawan, and during the great festivals, like Teej, Dashain, Tihar and Chhath, due to the fear of spreading the coronavirus.
Several religious organisations have been staging protest against the decision to keep the temples closed even as other sectors were allowed to resume.
