Over 80,000 Nepal Police, APF personnel deployed for COVID-19 response

By Keshab Raj Poudel, Kathmandu, Aug. 21: As many as 51,000 police personnel of the Nepal Police (NP) and 29,000 of the Armed Police Force (APF) have been deployed across all 77 district to prevent and control the COVID-19 spread.

Kuber Kathayat, spokesperson of the NP said that over 51,000 police officials were deployed across the nation for control and treatment of COVID-19 and management of isolation and quarantine centers set up nationwide.
He said that the police officials were mobilised according to the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) and the NP.

Likewise, some 29,000 APF officials were deployed in field for COVID-19 response across the nation, said Raju Aryal, spokesperson of the APF.

Aryal said that the APF officials were deployed in coordination with the local levels, as per the directive given by the Government of Nepal, MoHA and the APF.

“Some 1,500 APF personnel have been deployed in the Kathmandu Valley itself to effectively enforce the prohibitory order issued in the Valley to contain the virus spread,” said Aryal.
As many as 4,700 security officials have been deployed in the Kathmandu Valley to ensure the effective enforcement of the prohibitory order.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sushil Kumar Yadav, spokesperson of the Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, 3,300 police officials were deployed in the Kathmandu Valley by the NP itself.
