Kathmandu, Oct. 5: Kathmandu Valley has lately witnessed a surge in COVID-19 infections as cases continue to rise at a soaring rate every day. Being one of the densely populated cities, the new cases are increasing rapidly and showing worrisome trend as the major festival Dashain approaches.
Of the 2,253 new cases of COVID-19 recorded across the nation on Sunday, 1,599 cases were detected in the Kathmandu Valley alone. This accounts for 70 per cent of the total cases detected across the country in a single day. Earlier, the valley registered highest ever single-day cases of coronavirus infection on Friday, with 1,638 cases.
Among the total number of cases reported on Sunday, 1,599 persons - 604 females and 995 males - were found with novel coronavirus infection in the Valley itself, revealed the daily report released by the MoHP today.
Of the 1,599 new cases, 1,373 cases including 505 females and 868 males were detected in Kathmandu, 39 cases, with 20 females and 19 males, were reported in Bhaktapur, and 187 cases, with 79 females and 108 males, were recorded in Lalitpur district.
As per the latest update, Kathmandu district has registered 24,046 cases while adjoining Bhaktapur district recorded 2,488 and Lalitpur with 2,983 cases so far.

COVID-19 case tally soars
to 86,823 On Sunday, 2,253 new cases of COVID-19 were registered across the nation, taking the national tally to 86,823. The cases are increasing at an alarming rate with more than 2,000 cases reported daily over the last three days. On Friday, the country recorded 2,722 cases, which is the highest single-day record so far, while on Saturday it recorded 2,120 cases.
“In 12,484 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the last 24 hours, 2,253 persons were found with the coronavirus infection, informed Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) in the daily press briefing today.
According to the MoHP, 1,329 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. They were staying at home isolation or receiving treatment at various institutional isolation centres across the nation. The recovery rate now stands at 73.7 per cent, said Dr. Gautam.
As per the latest update, there are 22,219 active cases of COVID-19 of which 10,326 patients are in institutional isolation and 11,893 are in home isolation.
Of the active patients, 226 are admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of hospitals and 34 are receiving treatment with ventilator support.
Meanwhile, the MoHP on Sunday confirmed seven COVID-19 related deaths. Seven persons, four females and three males, succumbed to the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, revealed the MoHP's daily report.
With this, Nepal's COVID-19 death toll has reached 535 and the death rate stands at 0.62 per cent.
