Baglung, May 26 : After the second case of COVID-19 confirmed on April 2, the district of Baglung has not detected any other coronavirus patient since then.
For the first time, a 19-year-old lady from Baglung Municipality-4 was tested positive for the virus in the district on March 28 while 65-year-old woman, who returned home from Belgium via Doha of Qatar, is the second case in the district. Both of them won the battle against the virus and have maintained good health now.
As the district witnessed two cases of coronavirus in the early days of the virus in the country, the people here were terrified about the spread of the pandemic.
Fortunately, no one is infected from the two, thanks to the precautions of all stakeholders and their timely treatment.
Immediately after the cases were confirmed, contact tracing were done and some people were tested but all of them tested negative for the virus.
As no one was tested positive for the virus since then, the situation could be described that there is no community transmission of the virus, Chief of Health Office of Baglung Suraj Gurau said.
He said, “There remained no risk from the two cases confirmed in the early days. But, the level of risk has deepened now as the people have started to enter the district from India and other places,” Gurau added.
Saying that the risk of pandemic remains until the country is free from the coronavirus, he warned of conronavirus infection as hundreds of people are returning home from India lately.
We have no alternative to manage the quarantines and test more and more people. Currently, some 300 people in the district are under quarantine.
Chief District Officer of Baglung Gaulochan Sainju said that the major responsibility of the time is to keep the India returnee migrants under quarantines with coordination of the local governments. Our effort is to test them through PRC method, he added.
So far, a total of 1,271 persons had the tests through RDT and 308 through PCR method in Baglung. Reports of 18 individuals are awaited.
