By Krit Bahadur Bista, Kailali, Feb. 3: Nine of the border pillars set up along the Nepal-India border in Kailali district have been swept away by rivers.
Two main and seven minor pillar borders were washed away by the Karnali and the Mohana rivers.
Dhan Bahadur Singh, deputy superintendent of the Armed Police Force (APF) in Kailali, informed that nine out of 283 borders pillar that the APF has been looking after were swept away this year.
He said of the 283 border pillars, 184 pillars were in a safe state, 20 were in need of repair, three were in need of reconstruction, and 32 were missing while 35 were submerged in water.
Kiran Thapa, Chief District Officer of Kailali, said that the works related to pillars swept away, missing ones, and those needing reconstruction and repair will be done as per the decision of the joint mechanism on the border between Nepal and India.
Along the 101-kilometer long border stretch in Kailali district, there are 18 border outposts of the APF inspecting, monitoring, and providing security to the pillars along with the security of the border.
