Kathmandu, Sept. 29: The first virtual meeting of the joint working group on trade between Nepal and China is scheduled for Tuesday (September 29).
Operationalisation of Transit Transport Agreement, 2016 and its protocol, 2019, trade facilitation, establishment of Nepal-China Cross Border Economic Zone and cooperation to develop the trade infrastructure are the main agenda of Nepal in the meeting, said Urmila KC, joint-spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.
Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Prakash Dahal will lead Nepal in the meeting.
Under the trade facilitation, the meeting would discuss the construction of border inspection station in Rasuwa, duty free quota free market access for 512 Nepali products in China and establishment of multi-functional quarantine lab in Nepal, she told The Rising Nepal.
Nepali side will raise the labeling issue to export Nepali edible items to China for enhancing the export trade of Nepal’s potential products, she informed.
She said that the meeting would focus to attract more foreign investment from China and facilitate for trade between the two countries.
“The ministry is preparing to discuss the establishment of Nepal-China Cross Border Economic Zone to facilitate the trade and commerce,” she said.
The Nepali side would discuss the smooth operation of two international border points, Jilong/Rasuwa and Zhangmu/Kodari between Nepal and China in the meeting.
Similarly, the meeting would talk on the feasibility study of Korola/Netchung to construct a frontier inspection station and feasibility study of Olangchunggola-Riwa and Kimathanka-Chentang with top priority.
