Kathmandu, Nov 12: The major opposition Nepali Congress has stressed that high level diplomatic and political initiatives were essential to retrieve Kalapani and other areas located in country's north-west.
At a press meet organized at party central office on Tuesday, NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma viewed that the newly released map of India was unacceptable to the NC and Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura are under Nepal's territory.
"NC has clear support to the government to retrieve the lands including Kalapani, where there is the presence of Indian security. It was reaffirmed by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba at the all-party meeting the Prime Minister called on November 9," Spokesperson Sharma reminded.
He further said his party was cautiously observing the government initiatives to this regard.
He said, "National consensus is forged on border issue. At such situation, NC has confidence that government would be able to make result-oriented initiatives."
Save Dr KC's life
The major opposition has also urged the government to save the life of agitating Dr Govinda KC by addressing his demands with immediate formation of a talk team.
Similarly, the NC expressed worry over government's failure to pay heed to the agitation launched by medical college students over the exorbitant fee they are imposed by some colleges.
The party underscored the need to create atmosphere that ensures regular teaching learning at medical colleges by solving students' problems.
Adhere to Election Code
The NC has shown concern over Election Commission's clarification that dismissal of State Chiefs and new appointments was not violation of election code of conduct. "Chapter 4 (9) of Election Code of Conduct has clear provision that new posts can not be created nor be fulfilled. It is unconvincing to argue that the code is implemented only in case of employees."
It is deplorable that Election Commission has made public one-sided stance on dismissal of State Chiefs after the commencement of election code of conduct, Sharma said, adding that it was worrying concern for democratic practice that EC, a common constitutional body, made such statement.
The by-election monitoring and election commission coordination committee led by central member Ramesh Lekhak would draw the attention of EC leadership, according to Spokesperson Sharma.
The major opposition has also urged all sides to involve in healthy competition by adhering to the election code of conduct.
