Kathmandu, May 24: Nepali Congress, the main opposition party in the parliament, has called a meeting of the office bearers of its Central Working Committee for Sunday o discuss the government initiative to amend the Constitution to replace the old map with updated map of Nepal in the Coat of Arms.
The government has recently published the updated map of Nepal incorporating Lipulek, Kalapani and Lipiyadhura, which were omitted in the previous map put in the Coat of Arms.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba decided to call the meeting after Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal leaders held a meeting with him on Saturday, informed Deuba's personal secretary Bhanu Deuba.
Earlier, the Janata Samajwadi Party leaders met Deuba at the latter’s residence in Budhanilkantha. Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Upendra Yadav, Rajendra Mahatto, Sarat Singh Bhandari, Mahendra Raya Yadav and Anil Jha, among others had reached Deuba’s residence this afternoon to discuss the Constitution amendment issue. During one and a half hours meeting, they urged Deuba to help them to address the grievances of the Madhesi people while amending the Constitution.
After the meeting Janata Samajwadi Party leader Keshab Jha informed that they urged Deuba to forward the Constitution amendment process in package incorporating the Madhes's grievances. In response, Deuba told them that he would hold a party meeting to discuss the matter.
The Madhesi leaders have been demanding amendment to the Constitution right from its promulgation in 2015.
