Kathmandu, Feb. 2: The National Planning Commission (NPC) has announced that the upcoming national census will be held from June 8 to June 22 this Gregorian year. Member Secretary Kewal Prasad Bhattarai made the announcement at Sunday’s meeting of the Commission presided over by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the chairman of NPC.
Additionally, the meeting passed a concept paper which includes the idea of ​​developing the country into a prosperous, self-reliant and socialism-oriented nation where the citizens can enjoy equal opportunities and can lead a happy, healthy and dignified life.
Discussions were also held on the formulation of a roadmap to graduate Nepal to the status of developing nation from the least developed nations and increase the per capita income to US$ 1,400 by 2023.
The roadmap is also being prepared with the aim of transforming the country into a high-income developed country by 2043 with a per capita income of US$ 12,100.
The meeting also put forth a three-stage development period to achieve the long-term goals, objectives and indicators of the national ambition ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’. The first stage will focus on generating prosperity and happiness, the second will work to accelerate prosperity and happiness by achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the third will concentrate on sustaining the achieved prosperity and happiness.
The Commission has set 10 targets and 76 indicators to measure the achievements.
In the meeting, Prime Minister Oli asked all sectors to work sincerely to achieve these national targets designed for the long-term future of the country.
He also stated that the journey towards the creation of a prosperous Nepal with social justice had already started.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokhrel stressed on the need to continuously monitor and evaluate the implementation and progress of the various projects. Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel asked all involved to put people at the centre while designing such documents.
