Kathmandu, Jan 19: The meeting of the National Assembly today witnessed debate among members on Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

At the special hour of the meeting, lawmaker Rajkumar Kunwar argued that if the MCC was passed by the parliament, it would invite foreign military intervention. He warned that if it was passed, the US Army would enter Nepal via the project and capture uranium in Mustang.

If the sources available in the country were utilized, Nepal need not beg for help from others, he added. He demanded that government must address the issues concerning conflict victims and members of the martyrs.

Lawmaker Komal Oli said as all political parties and big leaders had not shown reservation on MCC and the government also failed to bring forth clear view which resulted in confusion among people. She said the American Embassy had however made it clear that MCC was not linked to any military alliance.

Similarly, lawmaker Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi expressed concern over conducting every government activity from Baluwatar, the residence of Prime Minister though there is Singha Durbar for administrative works.

Lawmaker Pramila Kumari demanded the government to withdraw cases filed against those involved in Madhes movement.

Dr Bimala Rai Poudel stressed the need to end anomalies from the federal parliament secretariat.

Mukta Kumari Yadav argued that criminal activities were conducted in cahoots with administration.

Parliamentarian Chakra Prasad Snehi said that although the budget would be allocated for Koteshwor-Jadibuti tunnel and Manohar Corridor annually no concrete action was taken towards this end. Calling out for such tendency, he called for the positive intervention of the government for such stalled development works.

Likewise, Ram Narayan Bidari expressed his concern over the encroachment of Tundikhel that stretches from Tripureshwor to Rani Pokhari area. He said that some portion of Tundikhel's land was under the Nepal Army while some were captured by the contractors.

The next meeting of the National Assembly is slated for Monday at 1 pm.
