Kathmandu, July 12: Lawmakers of the National Assembly Sunday expressed their worries about several political and other issues happening in the country. They voiced their concerns about the dissolution of the House of Representatives, rescue and distribution of relief to the disaster survivors and COVID-19 vaccines.
CPN-UML vice chairman Bamdev Gautam said that the National Assembly itself should be able to choose the Prime Minister and the annual budget could be presented in the Upper House.
“Let’s make some constitutional arrangements so that any lawmaker of the National Assembly can be elected Prime Minister,” he said. Gautam viewed that the Upper House was an important organ of the Federal Parliament and it should work accordingly.
Gautam said that the NA holds respect no less than the House of Representatives and it has representation of the whole nation. “The NA can work efficiently when the HoR does not get business in the Federal Parliament,” he added.
NC lawmaker Anita Devkota said that politics headed towards deadlock because of the Prime Minister. Stating that 1.4 million elderly citizens in the country were waiting for the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccines, she noted that the government was unable to manage them. She also expressed her worry about the increasing cases of abuse against girls. “Good governance has not been established and it’s the reason our daughters are not safe,” she added.
She also opposed the tabling of the ordinances in the Upper House. “The act to ignore the parliament is not tolerable,” she said.
Similarly, Taraman Swar from the Maoist Centre said that natural disasters, health crises and political uneasiness were affecting the people and the country. He also stressed the need for developing co-operation and coordination among the political parties and said parties should settle all the political issues. “Parties can settle political issues but not the court,” he added. He also blamed the Prime Minister for creating uneasiness by dissolving the House of Representatives twice and said he should step down and pave the way for ending the current stalemate.
JSP-N lawmaker Pramila Kumari said that flood and inundation are affecting life in the plain areas of the country. “Government needs to focus on the rescue and relief distribution to the natural disasters survivors,” she said.
