Kathmandu, Sept. 23: Monsoon for this season is expected to stay longer as the new monsoon-phenomenon that developed a few days ago in India arrived in Nepal on Monday.
"Formal date for Nepal's monsoon phenomenon to come to an end is September 23, but this time it is expected to stay a bit longer, at least one week or more," Min Kumar Aryal, senior meteorologist at Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, said.
"A few days ago, a new monsoon trough developed in India and that has now arrived in Nepal from Monday, and it is now showing its impact across the country, which will continue till Friday evening," Aryal said.
The whole country will be cloudy and may also witness heavy rainfall in one or two places for a couple of days, he said.
At present, the central and eastern regions are completely cloudy. Even the far-western region will start witnessing cloudy weather from Tuesday night, he said.
According to him, the monsoon trough is gradually moving towards north-western part of Nepal.
Activation of the westerly wind is required to replace the easterlies for formal end of the monsoon of this season.
Shiva Nepal, another senior meteorologist, said at present monsoon trough developed from the Bay of Bengal was moving towards Nepal and had caused this cloudy and rainy condition.

At present, State 1, 2 and Bagmati are witnessing cloudy weather and receiving light rains in Bagmati and State 5. Gandaki State is receiving medium level of rains at one or two places at present, Nepal said.
In the next 24 hours, mainly State 1, 2, Bagmati and Gandaki State are likely to get heavy rains in a few places.
Meanwhile, National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Authority, issuing a press statement on Tuesday, appealed to locals of all states to adopt precautionary measures to avoid human casualties from rain-triggered natural calamities.
Major rivers flowing in the east and west regions are likely to get swollen, it said.
