Minister Gurung seeks stakeholder's support to address problems in communication sector

Kathmandu, Oct. 19: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Parbat Gurung has said that he would focus on solving the problems seen in the communication sector in cooperation with the concerned stakeholders.
Stating that the journalists had been facing a big problem due to the coronavirus pandemic, newly appointed Minister Gurung put forward a plan to hold discussions with the stakeholders, including the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ).
During a meeting with office bearers of the FNJ at the minister's residence in Pulchowk on Sunday morning, he said that all the problems in the media sector would be solved only through discussions and cooperation with the stakeholders, including the federation. “For this, I am confident that the concerned bodies, including the FNJ, will provide the necessary support,” he said.
On the occasion, FNJ President Govinda Acharya drew attention to the problems faced by journalists due to the global pandemic, need for full implementation of the Working Journalists Act and restructuring of the media sector in the federal model.
In response, Minister Gurung expressed his commitment to solving the problems in the communication sector only by discussing them with the concerned bodies. He also said that he was committed to the protection and promotion of press freedom and the professional interests of journalists.
FNJ President Acharya, Vice President Dilip Thapa Magar, General Secretary Ramesh Bista, Secretaries Ram Prasad Dahal and Rem Bahadur Bishwakarma and Treasurer Rajesh Mishra were present at the meeting with Minister Gurung.
