Kathmandu, Aug. 4: At least 10 persons were killed in two separate landslides in Melmachi Municipality and Panchpokhari of Thangpal Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchowk district on Monday.
A huge mud slip at Melamchi Municipality-11 of the district buried eight labourers to death at 2:00 am on Monday morning, who were working there for the construction of a covered hall in the Melamchi market area, according to Murari Wosti, joint secretary and spokesperson of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
Bodies that went missing were later recovered after a joint search team of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepali Army reached the incident site.
Landslide that fell over a temporary shelter built by the workers just below the road side of Gaura Bazaar crushed them, according to Police Inspector of the Area Police Office Phal Bahadur Tamang.
Among the deceased, seven were from Birgunj and one was an Indian national.    
The deceased have been identified as Rajendra Chaurasiya, 42; Pradeep Chaurasiya, 35; Bikram Thing, 25; Man Bahadur Rumba, 23; Siman Ghalan, 20; Shiva Balak Dhami, 21; and Soman Lama, 17, of Birgunj and an Indian citizen Rajendra Chaudhary.    
Similarly, injured Indian national Baru Sah has been airlifted to Kathmandu-based HAMS Hosspital from Melamchi Primary Health Centre for further treatment.   
Meanwhile, two persons died when a landslide buried a house at Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality-2, Baruwa. 
The deceased have been identified as Yagya Bahadur Chhetri Banjara, 40, and his wife Laxmi Chhetri Banjara, 40, said ward chairman Pasang Lama. The incident took place when the landslide triggered by an incessant rainfall buried their house on Sunday night.    
The landslides of Sunday night caused huge losses in ward no 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8 of the rural municipality, according to Lama.
Nepal Overseas Chinese Business Association has provided mattresses worth Rs 350,000 to flood victims of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality. The mattresses were handed over to chairperson of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Raj Kumar Poudel.
