Nawalparasi, Nov. 10: General secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC) Dr. Shasank Koirala on Sunday said, “Unless the communication sector is developed, the nation will not pave its way towards development.”
The nation will move backward in future, if anyone tries to stop growth in communication, he said.
Speaking at programme organised to mark the 5th anniversary of Bijaya Khabar Newspaper at Gaidakot, Koirala said that the communication sector had developed after the restoration of multi-party democratic system.
Koirala also stressed on the need of freedom of press for the development of communication.
“Positive attitude of the ruling government towards press and promotion of freedom of press are vital to achieve development of the nation as a whole,” said Koirala.
Koirala said that everyone is equally liable to guarantee the freedom of press in the nation.
“Journalism is a sector that requires commitment and decency,” said Koirala. “Journalists, therefore, should perform their duties, being accountable to the government and the citizens.”
Press should always be free from interventions of any sort, a society without freedom of press is unimaginable, Koirala said.
