Kathmandu, Jan. 17: Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that he had saved the country by stopping those who wanted to ruin it.
Addressing a cadres’ conclave of NCP in Kathmandu on Saturday, Prime Minister Oli clarified that he had done the job of bringing smile on the face of the country and its people.
The courts should be allowed to function independently in a democracy, he said adding that the government had done all its work openly and transparently.
PM Oli claimed that he had not met the Supreme Court judges as reported in the media. “They are trying to mislead people by bringing out false reports.” He urged all not to tarnish the dignity of the court.
Stating that the decision of the Cabinet was taken in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal, PM Oli said, “The work of the government is led by the Prime Minister. The decision was taken as per Article 76 (7), Article 85 of the Constitution, according to the parliamentary practice and system.”
“Have you seen other party leaders going to the media against their own chairman and acting against discipline?” he questioned.
Expressing his serious concern over the insult of the nation’s highest institution, PM Oli said the Constitution had provision of a constitutional session and the hearing is going on accordingly.
Then why the unnecessary hassles are being created, he asked. While the government is preparing for the election, some groups reached the Election Commission and asked to stop the election preparations, said PM Oli, adding that, “Is this a democratic thinking?” he inquired.
“The government is working to bring smiles on the faces of the Nepali people. Some people are not happy to see Nepali people laughing. Why are they upset when they see people laughing?” he asked.
PM Oli asked people to launch a campaign to protect democracy and work for the prosperity of the country.
He also expressed his confidence that those with patriotic characteristic would win the upcoming election.
PM Oli asked the Prachanda-Nepal faction of NCP not to make a claim for the official recognition of NCP and the sun as the election symbol because they both belong to his faction.
“Why is a group, which is against the election, is claiming the sun as their election symbol? Anyone who had never contested an election under that symbol cannot make its official claim,” he claimed.
“Election does not mean the country is in crisis. But one should not be misled by those who do not show democratic behaviour but never stop chanting the name of democracy,” he said.
Those who are scared with the name of election can never be democratic, he said.
He asked people not to have doubts about election, as the government has already started its preparation.
Subash Nembang, Standing Committee member of NCP, said the country was moving towards stability and prosperity under the leadership of PM Oli.
“No action has been taken against any leader so far, as we are in favour of party unity,” he said.
The dissolution of the House of Representatives was a natural event as per the Constitution, said Nembang.
