Kathmandu, May 27: Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ Tuesday said the government had formed a five-member probe committee to investigate into the caste-based violence in Chaurjahari of West Rukum.
On Saturday, Nawaraj BK, 19, a young man from the Dalit community, was lynched to death by locals of Chaurajahari Municipality in West Rukum for having love affair with a girl from Malla community. The two had planned for an inter-caste marriage.
The girl was a permanent resident of Chaurajahari Municipality-8 of west Rukum.
The deceased boy and his friends were pelted stones and chased by the locals until they were swept away by the Bheri River.
As the boy was from the Dalit community, the girl’s family members and neighbours were against their affair.
Speaking at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Home Minister Thapa said that the government had formed the probe committee led by an Under-secretary of the Ministry. He said three Dalits had died in the incident while four are still missing in the Bheri River.

The probe committee will have a Senior Superintendent of Police, representatives from National Investigation Department, Office of the Attorney General and another Under-secretary from the Home Ministry.
The government has also instructed to deploy a deep diver to find the bodies of three missing people in the Bheri River, Home Minister Thapa told during the address at the NA.
In connection with the incident, police have so far arrested 12 people including a local representative for investigation into the case.
Likewise, BK’s friends and relatives who had gone to the girl’s house on Saturday have also been arrested for investigation.
Before the incident, the boy had even found to have gone to the girl’s home to convince her parents for the marriage.
Preliminary police investigation shows that the three deaths occurred because of caste-based discrimination.
Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress on Tuesday demanded stern action against the culprits involved in the violence.
NC spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma in a statement urged the government for a fair probe into the incident and stern action against the offenders.
He also urged the government to search for youth who went missing in the Bheri River.sss
