Kathmandu Mar. 26: To control the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the government has intensified a task to set up quarantine throughout the country with the capacity of 130,000 beds.
The government has already forwarded work to identify locations to set up 5,000 quarantines in the Kathmandu Valley.
In this regard, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai, who also leads the Quarantine Management Committee, on Wednesday appealed to hotel entrepreneurs of Nagarakot to provide space of their hotels for quarantine.
“At a time when the whole world is facing a crisis, the support and cooperation of one and all are needed to overcome this crisis,” said Minister Bhattarai.
He further added that to combat the possible outbreak of the disease, every citizen should act responsibly. “Public awareness and discipline is the moral power of the government,” he said. “Let’s be cautious and safe. Let’s keep our family, society, country and the world safe by abiding by the lockdown.”
It is informed that the government has been preparing to set up a 2,000-bedded quarantine in Nagarkot.
According to the secretariat of the Minister Bhattarai, the committee on Wednesday had a meeting with the hotel entrepreneurs and discussed about the

possibility of setting up quarantines in 500 rooms of the Nagarkot-based hotels in the first phase.
During the meeting, hotel entrepreneurs, local administration and representatives of all security agencies were present. Likewise, Minister Bhattarai also had a meeting with the security forces and local representatives to understand the possibility to set up quarantine at Duwakot-based Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) and Pashupati Area.
It is informed that the government has already decided to set up 450-bedded quarantine and five-bedded isolation ward at the KMC Duwakot. Similarly, the committee has already set up 70-bedded quarantine at Pashupati area.
Minister Bhattarai said the government had intensified the preparation to set up international standard 130,000 quarantines across the country. “Total 5,000 quarantines will be prepared in the Kathmandu Valley alone.”
While 2,000 quarantines would be set up at each state, Terai districts and municipals, 1,000 quarantines would be set up in Sub-metropolis and hilly districts, while 500 quarantines would be set up in mountainous region.
