Kathmandu, Mar. 27: The government has given approval to establish a chemical and organic fertiliser factory in Nepal.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Thursday evening decided to open the factory to meet the demand of fertilisers.
“A proposal tabled by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development to open a fertiliser factory has been approved by the Council of Minister on Thursday,” according to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development on Friday.
Minister for Agriculture Padma Aryal said that the government was going to set up the fertiliser factory for the long-term solution to the problem of fertiliser shortage the Nepali farmers face every year.
“We have solved the immediate problem of fertiliser. In order to solve the long-term problem of fertiliser, the government has started the process of setting up a factory,” said Minister Aryal. “We have moved the process forward to solve the mid-term problem,” the Minister said.
The Cabinet meeting held on Thursday approved the study report, 2077 B.S. on the establishment and operation of chemical fertiliser factory in Nepal and gave approval to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development to take forward the process for its establishment, Secretary Dr. Yogendra Kumar Karki at the Ministry told The Rising Nepal.
The Ministry has also decided to assign the Office of the Board of Investment to prepare and implement necessary procedures for the establishment of chemical fertiliser factory in Nepal under Public Private Partnership (PPP) modality and to build required infrastructure, Secretary Karki said.
