'Foundation for development laid'

Kathmandu, Jan.1:  Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the foundation the country has laid for development and prosperity will rise to a greater height by the end of 2021.
Extending his best wishes on the occasion of the New Year 2021 on Friday, Prime Minister Oli assured that the campaign to make the nation prosperous and life of the people happy would reach a meaningful point.
“In the coming years, our nationality will be stronger. We will move forward using our independency in a more practical and realistic sense and will protect our geographical integrity and national interests and uplift the national pride,” Prime Minister Oli said.
He called upon the people from all professions, regions, classes and communities to stand together with the government’s campaign and take the steps of national prosperity to new heights.
“I assure you all that in the coming year, the leap the country has taken forward towards the national prosperity will reach its zenith,” Prime Minister Oli said.
He said the country has succeeded in uplifting Nepal from a lower-income country to a lower-middle –income country in 2020.
Similarly, the country, in line with the United Nations Development Goals, has been moving towards graduating to a middle income country by 2022, Prime Minister Oli said.
Compared to the past, the country had come a long way in building transport infrastructures, bridges, stadiums, archeological heritage, health and education sectors, he said.
During this period, the country had begun some far-reaching development projects and completed some projects that would make a difference to life of the people, he added.
“In 2020, we have faced global pandemic of COVID-19, which had adversely affected our health and social and economic life of the country,” said the Prime Minister, adding that comparatively Nepal has been able to reduce the damage caused by COVID-19 by improving its health infrastructures which was in weak and fragile condition.
Prime Minister Oli further urged one and all to stay safe by following all the safety measures to remain safe from this contagious pandemic.
Prime Minister Oli said the country had succeeded in completing the reconstruction of the infrastructures destroyed by the devastating earthquake of 2015.
Similarly, the country’s position as a safe nation for investment has also improved and succeeded in laying the foundation of a strong economy by reducing imports and increasing exports, he said.
“As a result, our social tendency to share frustration with each other has now begun to focus on the debate over good governance and prosperity,” the Prime Minister said.
“We are moving forward with firm commitment on the path of fulfilling the aspirations of the people by overcoming the obstacles created by personal interests of those who are detached from the priority of nation building.”
