Dhangadhi, July 31: The Kanchanpur District Court on Friday gave a clean chit to eight police officers against whom a case of tampering the evidences and torturing innocent in the Nirmala Pant rape and murder incident was filed.
The court gave clean chit to then chief of Kanchanpur SP Dilli Raj Bista along with DSPs Gyan Bahadur Sethi and Angur GC; Inspectors Ekendra Bahadur Khadka, Jagadish Prasad Bhatta; Sub-inspectors Hari Singh Dhami and Ram Singh Dhami; and Police Constable Chadani Saud.
Durga Devi Pant, mother of Nirmala, had filed a case against the officers for tampering the evidences. Similarly, Khadak Singh Bista, brother of Dilip Singh Bista, had filed a case against the officers for torturing his brother while in custody.
“A single bench of Justice Gopal Prasad Bastola acquitted them in the case,” said Yadu Nath Sharma, registrar of the Kanchanpur District Court.
Nirmala, 14-year-girl, was raped and murdered two years ago and more than a dozen investigating committees were formed. However, the perpetrator has not been arrested yet.
