Kathmandu, Apr. 27: Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba on Monday demanded with the government to take measures to stop the COVID-19 contagion to handle the situation before it spirals out of control.
Stating the country was facing COVID-19 second phase, he said the infection rate was increasing and it was necessary to arrange ICUs and ventilators for serious patient.
Deuba in a statement said the country’s health infrastructure was not sufficient to treat the growing number of infected as the infection was increasing significantly among the youth as well.
“In this situation, I would like to demand with the government to take necessary measures to control COVID-19. Make necessary arrangements for treatment of infected, availability of health materials and keep health workers’ morale high,” he said.
Viewing vaccine was vital to save people from COVID-19, he said the government was not serious about providing vaccines on time.
India and China provided 1 million and 800,000
free vaccines to Nepal respectively and the Chinese vaccine is being administered currently.
Thanking both the neighbouring countries for the assistance, Deuba underlined the need of huge number of vaccines to fulfill the demand of the country.
He demanded with the government to initiate diplomatic process with concrete plans to manage necessary vaccines as soon as possible.
Former Prime Minister Deuba urged the friendly countries to provide vaccines to Nepal as it was unable to book vaccines earlier while the developed countries already booked beyond their need.
He also urged Nepali citizens to adopt health security protocols, use masks and other security arrangements for safety and to stop infection of COVID-19.
