Parliamentary board, statute amendment committee formed

By Lucky Chaudhary, Kathmandu, Mar. 18: The meeting of the CPN-UML parliamentary party held today has decided to form a 27-member Parliamentary Board and three-member committee to amend the statute of the party.

The meeting of the CPN-UML parliamentary party held today at the Prime Minister's residence took the decision to this effect.

In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the leader of the parliamentary party and Chairman of CPN UML, Oli called everyone to not participate in the programmes organised by the factions within the party.

"Chairman Oli also warned everyone that those who participate in such programmes by going against the party's charter would be punished accordingly," informed parliamentarian Mahesh Basnet, who was also present in the meeting.

According to parliamentarian Basnet, the Parliamentary Board Committee comprised of Chairman Oli, Jhalanath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Subash Chandra Nembang, Bishal Bhattarai, Shanta Chaudhary, Raghubir Mahaseth and Sher Bahadur Tamang among others.

The board will be given the authority to punish those members of the parliamentarians who act against the party's charters, rules and regulations.

Of the 27 members in the board, the meeting held today has finalised 24 names. Basnet informed The Rising Nepal that the remaining three names would be nominated later.

Likewise, a three-member committee to amend the statute has been formed with chief whip Bishal Bhattarai as the coordinator. Sher Bahadur Tamang and Bimala Rai Poudyal are the other two members of the committee.

"The committee will prepare a proposal of amending the statute, which will be presented in the parliamentary party meeting," said Basnet.

The parliamentarians of the Khanal-Nepal-led faction of the CPN UML were also present in the meeting today.  According to Basnet, Lal Babu Pandit, Tulasa Thapa, Ganga Satgauwa Tharu, Maya Gyawali, Bishnu Sharma and Kalina Khatun were present in the meeting.
