Kathmandu, Jan. 19: Ganesh Dutta Bhatta has been recommended to chair the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) while Yuba Raj Subedi to chair the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP).
A Committee formed in coordination of former Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra recommended members, including the chairs for the TRC and CIEDP Saturday.
We have submitted recommendation report to Minister for Law Bhanubhakta Dhakal today, said Sharmila Karki, a member of the recommendation committee.
Both TRC and CIEDP have been without office bearers when the term of former members expired on April 2019. The government had formed a five-member recommendation team led by former Chief Justice Mishra to name the members in both the committees in March, 2019.
Other members recommended in the TRC included Prachanda Raj Pradhan, Gobinda Gautam, Mana Dahal and Bishnu Pokharel.
Similarly, Bishnu Bhandari, Sunil Ranjan Singh, Gangadhar Adhikari and

Sarita Thapa Magar are recommended as members for CIEDP.
High level consensus in amending Bills
Meanwhile, high level leadership of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and main opposition Nepali Congress (NCP) agreed to approve the bills on TRC and CIEDP after making required amendment to them.
A meeting of the top leaders of the two parties held at Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday agreed to approve the bills on the TRC and CIEDP from the parliaments amending its provisions.
In the meeting, both chairmen of ruling NCP Prime Minister Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and president of Nepali Congress Sher Bhadur Deuba were present.
Agreement has been made to approve bills from the parliament soon, said Subash Nembang, deputy leader of NCP Parliamentary Party.
“Both the parties have agreed to approve the bills from the parliament by forging consensus on the issues of amendments to the bills,” he said.
NC leader Ramesh Lekhak said that leadership of both the parties had agreed to include the suggestions obtained from seven states in the bills.
The meeting also discussed appointments of members in the TRC and CIEDP, he said, adding that the names recommended by the committee would be final for appointing in the vacant posts of both the commissions.
Realising the delay in concluding the issue of transitional justice in lack of required law and members in the commissions, the government and the high level leadership of both the parties have agreed to take initiative to conclude the peace process, Lekhak said.
Saturday’s meeting was the continuation of the meeting held on Friday. NCP leader Nembang, Khimlal Devkota and NC leaders Dr. Minendra Rijal and Lekhak were also present in the meeting.
