Kathmandu, Nov. 10: At the invitation of the President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Md. Abdul Hamid, President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is paying an official goodwill visit to Nepal from November 12 to 15.
Issuing a press statement here on Saturday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) informed that the President of Bangladesh will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Tribhuvan International Airport upon his arrival. During the visit, Md. Abdul Hamid, President of Bangladesh, will meet with President Bhandari.
President Bhandari will host a banquet in honour of the President of Bangladesh and his delegation, MoFA added. Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister, K.P Sharma Oli, Chairperson of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timalsina and Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali will call on the President of Bangladesh. Senior political leaders of Nepal will also call on the President of Bangladesh.
While in Nepal, the President of Bangladesh will visit Pokhara and the historical, archaeological and cultural sites in the Kathmandu Valley.
During the visit leaders are expected to discuss making the Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) Motor Vehicle Agreement (MVA) operational. BBIN has already been ratified by Bangladesh, India and Nepal. However, Bhutan has not agreed on the BBIN accord, as its upper house had rejected the agreement.
Likewise, it is expected that both sides will hold talks about the issues of cross-border power trade. Bangladesh has already formulated a policy to import 9,000 MW electricity from Nepal by 2040.
During the fourth meeting of the Nepal-Bangladesh Technical Committee recently concluded in Kathmandu, Bangladesh had expressed shown interest in investing Rs. 100 billion in hydropower projects in Nepal.
Nepal and Bangladesh have agreed to jointly invest in some feasible hydropower projects.
