Gaur, Nov. 6:Suspended Nepali Congress lawmaker Mohammad Aftab Alam was presented before the District Court of Rautahat to record his statement on Tuesday.
The District Government Attorney Khadindra Raj Katuwal on Monday had field three separate charge sheets, including the homicide against Alam for his alleged involvement in committing several murders in Rautahat in April 2008.
The District Police Office brought him to the court at 10:30 a.m. and the statement recording process began at the closed single bench of Judge Deepak Dhakal.
According Registrar of the court Guna Raj Parajuli, the recording of his statement lasted for a few minutes as the statement recording process began only at 3:15 p.m. Alam was then taken to the custody as the statement recording could not complete.
“When he was presented to the court number 4 of Dhakal, the court could not enter into the subject as he was presented to the court late and the statement recording process ended after asking him only personal questions,” Parajuli said.
The statement recording of Alam will take place also on Wednesday and then the court may proceed for hearing, he said.
Statement recording of accused Alam delayed after a defendant side’s lawyers demanded the photocopies of the registered documents of the charge sheets. Panthi said that the statement recording task lasted for at least 45 minutes.

Earlier, the Rautahat district administration beefed up security in view of hearing on the case.
Twelve lawyers, including senior advocates Yubaraj Sangroula and Dinesh Tripathi are set to present their arguments on behalf of the victims during the hearing, according to advocate Pushpa Raj Poudel who has been helping the victims to move forward the case over the past few years.
Twenty-eight lawyers will present their arguments on behalf of Alam during the court hearing.
Rautahat attorney office had filed the case against them for their alleged involvement in in three criminal acts – use of explosives, murders, and attempted murder — as per the recommendation of the District Police Office, Rautahat. The office has sought life imprisonment for Alam and 10 others.
