By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Mar. 3: The Ministry of Health and Population on Wednesday confirmed 87 new cases of COVID-19, taking the nation's novel coronavirus tally to 274,381.

"In 3399 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the last 24 hours, 67 persons were found infected with SARS-CoV-2," informed the Ministry of Health and Population in the regular press briefing.

Of the new cases, 56 were recorded in Kathmandu Valley including three in Bhaktapur, 14 in Lalitpur and 39 in Kathmandu.

Currently, there are 766 active cases of COVID-19 of which 358 patients are receiving treatment in various institutional isolations and 1,197 patients are placed in home isolation. Similarly, 59 people, mostly those who had returned from abroad are placed in quarantine across the nation.

Of the active patients 42 are admitted to the ICU and nine are receiving treatment with a ventilator facility.

Meanwhile, 62 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in institutional isolation or staying in home isolation recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now recorded 270,605  cases of recovery and the recovery rate is at 98.6 per cent.

Moreover, 233 fatalities were recorded across the nation on Wednesday. With this, Nepal's COVID-19 death toll has spiked to 3,010.
