Kathmandu, Nov. 23: Reconstruction of 62 per cent of the private houses damaged in the 2015 earthquake has completed so far while 24 per cent of such houses is under construction.
Speaking at the Development and Technology Committee of the Parliament, chief executive officer of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Sushil Gyawali said that reconstruction of 479,545 earthquake-damaged demolished houses had been completed and 189,141 houses were in the process of reconstruction.
Gyawali said that 86 per cent progress was made in private house reconstruction when reconstructed and on the process of reconstruction were put together.
NRA has signed grant agreement with 776,426 beneficiaries for the reconstruction of private houses. Of the total beneficiaries, 99 per cent have taken Rs. 50,000 as the first installment, 80 per cent have received the second tranche of Rs. 150,000 and 67 per cent have taken the third installment of Rs. 300,000 so far.
Gyawali informed that out of 49,029 beneficiary households living in risky settlements, a total of 4,204 had been transferred to safer settlements.
Out of 7,553 schools damaged by the earthquake, 71 per cent have already been reconstructed and 24 per cent are under the process of reconstruction.
Similarly, out of 1,197 health institutions damaged by the earthquake, 58 per cent have been reconstructed and other 24 per cent are under the reconstruction process.
Likewise, out of the 753 heritages damaged in the earthquake, reconstruction of 51 per cent houses has been completed while other 16 per cent are under construction.
Gyawali said that reconstruction of major heritages, including Rani Pokhari, Dharahara, Singha Durbar and Kastamandap was going on in full pace.
On the occasion, the NRA had submitted the progress report according to an instruction of the committee in its earlier meeting.
Kalyani Khadka, chair of the parliamentary committee, directed the NRA to continue the reconstruction process until reconstruction of a single house remained uncompleted.
She directed the NRA to focus on providing concessional loan, supporting in earning activities and reconstruction of the old parliament building.
