Kathmandu/Gaur, Nov. 5: The District Attorney’s Office in Rautahat on Monday sought life imprisonment for 11 persons, including suspended lawmaker Mohammad Aftab Alam, for their alleged involvement in killing the individuals injured in a bomb blast in Rautahat district in April 2008.
The Attorney’s Office filed three separate cases—murder, attempted murder and crimes relating to Explosives Act-- against Alam at Rautahat District Court. The Office registered charges under the criminal code seeking a maximum of 25 years’ jail term for the suspended lawmaker, Ram Prasad Panthi, information officer and Deputy District Attorney told The Rising Nepal over telephone.
The cases were filed by district attorney Khadindraraj Katuwal on behalf of the government.
The District Police Office, Rautahat had submitted the charge sheet against him at the attorney’s office on Friday (November 1) after keeping him in the custody for 23 days. He was arrested on October 13. 
Alam, who is a Nepali Congress lawmaker, was accused of killing several persons by dumping them alive inside the furnace of a brick kiln in Rautahat.
He was accused of killing the people who were injured in a bomb explosion that had occurred at a cowshed of Alam’s relative when the victims were making bombs.
According to Panthi, Alam and his other complicit faced three

separate charge sheets under the Explosive Act-1961’s Section 4 Sub-section 10 (A) with a claim of two years in jail and Rs. 20,000 as fine or both and attempt murder of the present criminal code Section 183 (2) with a claim up to 10 years in jail and Rs. 100,000 as fine and murder charge sheet under the criminal code provision as mentioned in the section 177 of sub-section 1 with a claim of 25 years’ jail term. The third charge sheet sought 25 years of jail term, which is a life imprisonment against Alam, according to Panthi.
According to him, Alam will be presented to the Court on Tuesday for recording his statement.
Alam along with 10 other his accomplishes were accused of killing 23 people of which 14 had died in the blast and eight blast-injured by throwing them in a burning brick kiln.
The charge sheets were also filed against Alam’s brother Mohammad Mahatab Alam, Sekh Bhadai, Mohammad Mobin Alam, Sekh Sheraj, Badri Sahani, Sekh Fajalehak, Sagir Alam, Sekh Jumain alias Sekh Malakar, Gauri Shanker Sah and Mukti Sah, of Bara district. Except for Alam, all others are still at large.
It has been learnt that all those killed were making bombs probably for creating create terror during the 2008 Constituent Assembly elections to secure Alam’s win.As per the investigation conducted by police, Alam had killed eight of the injured witnesses in a brick kiln, including Oshi Akhtar and Trilok Pratap Singh.
A team of police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nabin Karki arrested Alam from Idris Gate in Rajapur Municipality-1 while he was on his way to attend a tea reception organised by Nepali Congress in the district headquarters, Gaur. 
The Supreme Court had on May 29, 2012 ordered a thorough investigation into the case and initiation of action as per the law.
Alam was elected to the House of Representatives from Rautahat Constituency-2 in the first Constituent Assembly elections in 2008. Meanwhile, he lost the second Constituent Assembly elections in 2013.
But in the parliamentary elections of 2017, Alam was elected from Rautahat Constituency-2.
