Kathmandu, Oct. 20: Police exposed the fraudulent acts of the suppliers of the construction materials by detaining 23 owners of the different supply companies from various places of Kathmandu on Friday.
Police claimed that the suppliers were supplying only 82.63 cubic feet materials in place of 100 cubic feet to the customers.
Organising a press meet at the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), the police made public 23 persons for allegedly cheating the customers.
Acting upon a tipoff, the MPCD squad raided offices of 23 suppliers and detained the owners and impounded the loaded construction materials, SSP and chief at the MPCD, Shahakul Thapa said.
The arrested were identified as Suk Bahadur Lama, alias Baghe Lama of JBS Suppliers, who had three depots in the Swoyambhu Sanobharyang area near Namgyalchowk of Kathmandu, Prakash Shrestha of Jay Laxmi Suppliers, Birendra Kuinkel of Bajra Enterprises Suppliers, Arjun Bhujel of Shivashakti Suppliers, Dipendra K.C. of Garima Suppliers, Badri Giri of Kamana Enterprises, and Surendra K.C of Subhakamana Enterprises.
Also, the police detained Prakash Bhandari of Khandadevi Construction Suppliers, Raju Thapa of Setidevi Suppliers, MaheshworeShrestha of Pancheshwore Suppliers, Santosh Kunwar of Dhaneshwore Suppliers, Shyam Bahadur Magar of Shree Bhumi Suppliers, and PushkarThapa of No Name Suppliers.
Likewise, the police detained Buddhi Raj Thapa Magar of Shree Kali Bhairab Suppliers, Madan Pradhan of Kundala Suppliers, Top Narayan Shrestha of Kalika Suppliers, Arjun Shrestha of Akarshan Suppliers, Krishnahari Nagarkoti of Swoyambhu Suppliers, Manohar Shrestha of Mahalaxmi Suppliers, Jog BahadurTamang alias Bijaya of Valley Quality Suppliers, Gopal Bhandari of Gorakhali Suppliers, Singha Bahadur Tamang of Bigyan Suppliers and Ramkrishna Shrestha of Nava Arun Suppliers.
SSP Thapa said that the suppliers were cheating the customers by supplying less amount of construction materials by installing a false button of up to five inch metal and wooden block under the vehicle’s loading chamber.
While supplying construction materials by one such false button vehicle, the suppliers caused a loss of up to Rs. 2,200 to the customers, SSP Thapa said. Majority of the mini trucks (of Mahindra Nissan) were installed with false button to cheat the customers while supplying the construction materials, he said.
Police have urged the victims to come to the MPCD for lodging a complaint against the suppliers from their respective areas who had been buying the construction materials from the concerned suppliers.
Police have also urged the general public to get aware about suppliers’ cheating practices and inform the police if they feel cheated.
SSP Thapa said that all the arrestees would be filed a case on fraudulent charge at the Kathmandu District Court.
