By TRN Online, Kathmandu, June 19: Many people are found seen wearing wet masks in monsoon season but according to health experts, it is not regarded safe to wear a wet mask.

The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) has recommended keeping the spare masks to avoid wearing a wet mask in a raining reason as it is not considered to provide safety from germs and COVID-19 infection.

Dr Basudev Pandey, Former Director EDCD has suggested not wear wet masks, saying that it does not protect from germs rather increases the chances of plaster germs on masks.

“A wet mask is harder to breathe through and it is less efficient at filtering, and vents more around the edges of the mask.” He said. "So, when you go out of the house, make it a habit to carry extra masks in a bag that is not soaked with water."

He advised to not to throw the used wet masks randomly as it increases the chances of spreading the virus in the community. "Especially, during the COVID-19 breakout, it is a must to put a mask in sealed plastic and throw it in a safe place to avoid further contractions", he added.

Similarly, the World Health Organization has offered similar advice on wearing the ripped and wet masks.
